FinXP partners with Thredd to strengthen multi-region card issuing capabilities

FinXP Thredd Partnership

New partnership combines FinXP’s Mastercard principal membership and issuing capabilities with Thredd’s issuer-processing platform to support scalable debit card programmes across Europe and future growth markets.

FinXP has partnered with global issuer-processing platform Thredd to strengthen our card issuing capabilities and support the next phase of our embedded finance offering.

The partnership will give FinXP access to a modern issuer-processing stack supporting areas including tokenisation, provisioning, risk and fraud prevention, card controls and automated back-office operations.

FinXP will continue to control its own ledger and programme strategy, while Thredd will provide the processing infrastructure and operational support required to help us build secure, flexible and scalable card programmes across multiple regions.

Building on five years of card issuing

FinXP has been issuing cards for five years and is a principal member of Mastercard.

Card issuing forms part of our wider payments infrastructure offering, alongside dedicated IBAN accounts, SEPA Instant payments, SEPA Direct Debit collections, global payouts, and embedded finance capabilities.

The partnership with Thredd represents another step in our strategy to provide fintechs, platforms, and internationally active businesses with regulated payment infrastructure that can support increasingly sophisticated use cases.

“Card issuing is an important part of FinXP’s broader embedded finance strategy,” said Jens Podewski, co-founder and CEO of FinXP.

“As a Mastercard principal member, we already have the issuing foundation in place. This new partnership gives us the processing infrastructure and operational support to take our capabilities further, support more complex use cases, and expand into new markets with greater confidence.”

Supporting FinXP’s next phase of growth

FinXP selected Thredd following a competitive review process, with its technical capabilities, responsiveness and willingness to develop a solution around FinXP’s operating model playing an important role in the decision.

Thredd provides issuer-processing technology to more than 100 fintechs, digital banks and embedded finance providers across over 50 countries.

“Payment companies today are looking for partners that can move quickly without sacrificing control, compliance or customisation,” said Jim McCarthy, CEO at Thredd.

“That is exactly where Thredd is focused: helping regulated institutions and fintechs bring differentiated payment products to market with the infrastructure, controls and support to scale.”

The partnership also creates opportunities beyond FinXP’s own card programmes. FinXP will be able to act as a European BIN sponsor for Thredd’s global client base, supporting Thredd’s partner-led approach to serving clients across multiple geographies.

For FinXP, this expands the role we can play within the wider card issuing ecosystem while strengthening our ability to support businesses looking to launch and scale payment products in Europe.

The announcement comes ahead of Money20/20 Las Vegas, where both FinXP and Thredd will be meeting fintechs, banks and platforms exploring card issuing, embedded finance and international payment infrastructure.
