MFSA Licensed EMI Answers written in plain language
Common questions

The questions we answer most often

No. FinXP is an Electronic Money Institution licensed by the Malta Financial Services Authority. We provide Euro accounts, payment services and card issuing under an EMI licence, which is a different regulatory category from a banking licence. Client funds are protected through safeguarding rather than deposit insurance.

Eligible client funds are safeguarded. That means they are held separately from FinXP's own money, are not lent to third parties and are not used to fund our operations. Safeguarding is a regulatory protection mechanism for EMIs and works differently from a bank deposit.

Start at the Open an Account page. You will tell us how your business moves money, we assess the actual business model rather than the industry label, and if FinXP is the right fit you onboard with a named contact who understands your sector.

Onboarding requirements depend on your business, but you should expect to provide company registration documents, details of ownership and directors, and a clear picture of your payment flows and volumes. Your onboarding contact will confirm the exact list for your case before you start assembling anything.

You can instruct a cancellation of a SEPA direct debit collected through FinXP. The full process, including what you need to have to hand, is explained step by step at the Cancel a SEPA Direct Debit page on this site.

SEPA Direct Debit is a Euro collection method that lets a business pull payments from a customer's account under a signed mandate. It is widely used for subscriptions, memberships, invoicing and other recurring payments across the 41 European countries.

FinXP accounts give you access to SEPA Credit Transfer across all 41 European countries, and our payout capabilities extend to over 130 countries and more than 60 currencies for cross-border payments.

Yes. FinXP is a Principal Member of Mastercard, which means we can issue card programmes directly rather than through an intermediary. If you are exploring a card programme, speak to the team about what your setup would involve.

Existing clients should use their named contact or the support routes provided at onboarding. For anything else, including new enquiries and questions this Help Centre does not answer, contact the team through /contact-us and we will route your question to the right person.
